Why do I always smile with my teeth? Because I look scary if I don't, here is the evidence.

For those that have followed my blog for a while you may recall a photoshoot I did a long time ago with the wonderful photographers Marcus Lim and that.girl.nina. Although the set and brief for the shoot wasn't suggestive in any form, I did get mixed reviews from the regular readers who didn't agree with my risque cropped top. At the risk of revisiting that era (and I guess my youthful days of grunge? haha) I whipped out my cut-out black dress today.

I guess looking through old photos I'm still inspired the theme of it all. Marcus and Nina have such creative minds, especially for something that was quite impromptu! And its good to experiment with different looks every now and then. Besides, you're probably all sick of seeing me in the usual girly neutrals, pastels, loose fitting dresses and chiffon anyway hahaha

On a low note - after these photos were taken I got the dreaded Lens Error on my Canon S95. A Canon user's nightmare! So I'll have to make do with whatever I've got around me until I find a new camera. If you have any suggestions I would love to hear from you!

Although friends turn to each other during trying times, I often thought that it was easier to just smile than to explain why I'm unhappy.

Everybody is changing, finding their own place in the world and fighting their own battles so it's not that I don't like to open up to other people, I just don't want to spread any burden. I don't like asking for sympathy or support and when I unexpectedly receive it it turns me into a blubbering mess. Nobody wants to deal with a mess like that.

A few weeks ago when I was about to prepare myself for a night of relentless falling into a worry of thoughts, two friends came over and gave me this printed canvas that I now hang above my bed. I've slowly started to believe that

"Perhaps our eyes need to be washed with our tears once in a while so we can see life with a clear view again"

And whenever I look at this sign I'll think of the wonderful people I have in my life that can make me smile even when all I want to do is cry. That think I'm beautiful even when I'm a mess. Thank you.

Dress by Sheike, YSL Arty Oval ring in Turquoise, Azure and Lapis

I purchased the YSL Arty Oval ring in Lapis as a self Christmas present but not long after I patted myself for zero buyers remorse, I found out through my cousin that Cult Status stocked the Arty Oval ring in Azure and in my size too! I've wanted the Azure for the longest time and I could never find it anywhere....so out came the debit card, once again.

When I finally had both the Azure and Lapis in my hand, I reluctantly had to make the decision of keeping only one of the two. Before I recieved them I thought the choice was obvious because I wanted the Azure for that lovely gold streak, but in person the Lapis stone and its gold specs were a lot more vibrant. I would keep both if I could! But I think that might be bordering an irrational obsession - I was never going to wear them all at once and because I've lost my green Arty Oval, all the ones I had at that moment were different shades of blue... so a few days ago I posted up the Lapis ring for sale and I'm confident she has found herself a better home :)

And to you dear Miss Azure, welcome to the family.

I've also been experimenting with gradient nails this week. I still need to work on my blending but they turned out a lot better than I thought! Oh, and in the last picture my nails are supposed to be cupcakes...although I've been told otherwise.. haha

Christmas and Cupcakes

I like a lot of things - clothes, bags, baking, nailpolish and getting crafty are a few of many. So this week I whisked a teaspoon of each into my Christmas break and now I have myself this big meringue pie of a post that you're about to scroll through. I apologise in advance.

Its been nearly a year since my Prada Saffiano Tote made its first debut, unfortunately she hasn't aged all that gracefully. She's developed so many creases that I've tried to smoothen away and without a hard base the bag just keeps slumping. With the amount of things I carry around I think my next bag needs to be a lot more structured than this tote.

So I started researching a while ago but I didn't want to post this up until after Christmas, otherwise Jeremy might think I'm hinting for ridiculously lavish gifts this year (I told him I just want a nice long hug..and I wasn't even kidding!). I've found two bags that make me drool uncontrollably: The Celine Assymetrical Bag and the YSL Vavin Classic Leather Tote Bag.

I may not have my hands on either now, but I will find you!

So with Jeremy stumped this year on a tangible gift, I did end up getting the hug I asked for.. and he also gave me the best gift in the worldddd - a trip away to Hunter Valley to see the Christmas Lights Spectacular! After my Hunter Valley trip away with my girl friends was cancelled, I admittedly moped about not seeing the lights this year so on Christmas Day he loaded his iPad screen with the booked accommodation for Hunter Valley at Crowne Plaza and we packed our bags the next morning. I had a lovely trip away, thank you so much.

...and now the Burberry watch I got him for Christmas just doesn't seem to compare, but I really hope he liked his gift and the extra effort I put in the cards this year (another Christmas domo and a pop-out reindeer card!). I also had time to make reindeer and santa hat cupcakes this year - oh the joy of freedom from exams!

If you're wondering how to make the pop-out card, Robert Sabuda has a great website for pop out card templates. I printed a reindeer template from there and the instructions are incredibly easy to follow, to put it short: dotted line = fold, solid line = cut.

1. Print out your templates

2. If you would like to use different coloured/textured paper, place the template on top of the paper and cut/fold accordingly
3. Glue where necessary

4. Glue the bits into place

5. Add your finishing touches

And there you have it!

Now moving on to nailpolish, a handful of people have been asking about nail polish I'm wearing in my ANNIEPOPSHOP banner. The polish is the Gold Milani Jewel FX and here are some better quality images of the Jewel FX in Gold with one, two and three coats.

I adore big beautiful chunks of glitter! And from the Milani Jewel FX collection I ended up purchasing the Silver, Gold and Gems. Shortly after getting them in the mail I realized that 'Gems' was an exact dupe of OPI's Rainbow Connection, so if you're looking for a cheaper alternative the Milani Jewel FX polishes are waiting for you here!

For a while now this blog has been fuelled by my reverence for clothes, nail lacquer, make-up and impractical hoarding, yet, as I’m skim reading through 2011 thinking of how to conclude my year I realized that my style didn't really change, my makeup collection hasn't grown exponentially (in size or variety) and my entries are more infrequent than ever. On the surface, I’m a blogger mess... but unintentionally, this year I’ve found growth and change in myself and 2011 turned out to be more invaluable than I ever anticipated. If I had to describe my year in one word, it would most likely be: bombdiggity.

So, here is my year in a nutshell:

I got to visit America for the first time and traveled around the Caribbean in the biggest cruise ship in the world.

I celebrated my 21st birthday.

I celebrated my first anniversary with Jeremy.

I got a full-time job at the 2nd Best Place to Work in Australia.

I got a new car.

I watched one of my longest friends get married. Congratulations Tracy and Tony :)

I somehow got through University and full-time work and successfully completed my degree. Graduation photos are yet to come!

I was a guest lecture for Master of Commerce students at UNSW and I've just received a thank you letter from the UNSW Head of School of Marketing.

I finally launched my online shop!

I was given the opportunity to give back. E-Web Marketing served morning tea and donated gifts to the Charles Chambers Court Aged Care Facility and just this Thursday I volunteered at the Triple Care Farm for Mission Australia.

And at the end of this year I’ll get to spend my first new years with Jeremy.

2011 - you’ve been so good to me, I can’t wait to see what 2012 has to offer.

I invite you all to do a 2011 year in review post, it might surprise you how much this year has impacted on the many years to come and I would love to read your journey :)

Is this the most serious you've ever seen me in blog photos or what? Haha

You know you've neglected your blog when you start receiving Formspring comments that say "gotta stop leaving for months at a time :(" and for this, I sincerely apologise :( it's nearly that time of the year again for the all important final exams and the two I have looming around the corner pretty much will determine whether or not I will graduate this year. Pretty nervewracking stuff! So before I leave for another month, I owe it to this formspringer to put up a lengthy and photoheavy post, something I surprisingly haven't done in a while (:

While I've been away I've spent it doing what I do best - shopping in vanilla scented stores adorned with fairylights and lots of pink. I can't remember the name of the store below but I found it walking through Chinatown with Jermz. It drew me right in with all the Glasshouse diffusers displayed near the doorstep. I squealed like a little girl when I stepped inside, as you do.

Unfortunately I didn't buy anything that day but it really did trigger my sweet tooth seeing all the cake and cookie shaped lipglosses. The next few weeks I found myself eating every macaroon you can think of (name a colour.. and I've eaten the macaroon equivalent..) I also had an incredible day on the park with my girlfriends, a bottle of wine and heaps of Adriano Zumbo sweets. What a perfect date!

And moving on to the cosmetics, its been a very long time since I've indulged in more lip products and nailpolishes - these are the two things that I have a ridiculous amount of but I really started to feel the withdrawal symptoms seeing wonderful and obscure shades of lipsticks popping up in Halloween makeup tutorials all over YouTube. This was when I realized, my addiction to the internet means that there really is no escape.

YSL Arty Ovale Ring in Turquoise

Unfortunately some time during my blog hiatus and the frenzy of my mid-semester exams I misplaced my Green YSL Arty Ovale ring. I admittedly did mope a little over the loss but with work piling up I had to carry on with the million and one things I had left to do.

And now in return of my hiatus, I have somehow stumbled across two new additions to the YSL family - the first is possibly the most affordable YSL ring, an easy DIY which I'm excited to share with my lovely blog readers! :)

All you need is:

1. One empty YSL lipstick and...

2. The mighty strength to pull it all apart (with the help of pliers if you have pansy arms like me)

and you've got yourself a new accessory!

This wonderful DIY was inspired by Madame Broschinka

As for its turquoise friend, a few weeks ago Jeremy went to Singapore and without even knowing that I had lost my ring, he came home and surprised me with a new Arty Ovale which I've been wearing to death. I'm also slightly obsessive over Ben & Jerry's ice cream and he bagged me a few delicious lip balms while he was there! Thank you for thinking of me, thank you so much for the gifts :)

I'm looking past the hayfever yet to come and just looking forward to way more sun because Sydney has been deprived of it for way too long, hello Spring!

Before I carry on announcing the winner for the leather triangle necklace from ANNIEPOPSHOP I would like to take this opportunity to thank my wonderful mum.

Ever since the new semester and my new job have started simultaneously, I've worked every weekday from 9 - 5pm and sometimes even later, then push myself to study when I get home until my eyes droop. During this study time my mum is constantly checking that I'm okay, leaving bowls of fresh fruit on the kitchen table beside me and turning the heater on when I'm still awake and she's heading up for bed. Just a few weeks ago, she asked me if I wanted to go shopping with her and when I told her I had to stay home and do my work - she came home and surprised me with a gift....mum, you are extraordinary. My first week of working at E-Web Marketing seems like it just flew right by and although there has been a lot to learn, I couldn't be happier! BRW you were right on the mark with this one - the people, the culture and our facilities have all treated me so well and I can tell that this has been the first week of many, many, many weeks to come (:

Happy Birthday!

On Tuesday I surprised the boyfriend with a hand made Domo card (which I'm quite proud of! Haha), birthday gifts and a dinner reservation at Quay. After stressful weeks of shopping, I ended up getting him the Louis Vuitton Boston Glazed Calf Leather Reversible Belt in black and silver and the Burberry Grainy Leather iPad case in Black - two practical things that he'll hopefully make a lot of use from!

Although the weather didn't go as planned, everything else did. We were seated facing the Harbour Bridge, the service was fantastic and dinner at Quay couldn't have been better. The quail, pig jowl and the famous apple and guava snow egg were absolutely mouthwatering!

My dear Jermz, I hope you had an amazing night, you've made the past year so wonderful and you deserve only the best. Happy Birthday - to the sunshine in my life (:

New beginnings

I've been so immersed in work and blogging for Jade & Belle that I started to forget about my own blog :( but I'm determined to change things! During the past few weeks of my blogosphere absence I've been in the process of gathering pre-loved as well as NEW things to revive my anniepopshop which I aim to revamp before the end of next week, it has been tedious but exciting and I hope you enjoy what's to come!

Life has been a rollercoaster ride as of late. The first exciting change for me was *drumroll*...finally getting a new car! My old car took months to fix after the accident and once it returned home it was no longer in tip top condition :( so I set myself out to look for the perfect convertible and I finally found it in the 350z, we have been absolutely inseparable!

the second big turn-around this month would be that I have decided to leave Jade & Belle. Although I was able to build myself a great portfolio while I was there, I have been given an offer that I couldn't refuse. Starting from the 25th I will be stepping out in my new corporate shoes as the Marketing Account Manager at E-web Marketing! E-web ranks 2nd right under Google in BRW's Best Places To Work in Australia and I am over the moon to be a part of the team :)...I'm also over the moon that there seems to be sales all around during my week in limbo haha

and to top the week off I've booked tickets for the boyf and I to watch the last instalment of Harry Potter tonight, I've been jittery all day!

It's been a busy week, I've started training at my new job and every spare moment I've had I've spent it hunting for faux fur. The perfect way to avoid the snuggie but still keep warm and toasty haha

and after the chain of events from my old laptop failing last week. Over the weekend the boyfriend gave me a no occasion gift, a new and functioning 15.5" laptop - I'm swooning! (:

High and low

"Where there's sweet, there must always be bitter" - exactly my week in a nutshell. I've finally finished my assessments, had time to organise my vanity and I'm blogging today with both exciting and devastating news (well, devastating and exciting for me haha)

I've had to bare with a rinky dinky laptop for a while now and come Wednesday night, the night before my assignment is due, it decides to crash and I grudged through the night to try and re-write what was lost and drove to class the next morning without sleep.

That afternoon, without realizing I fell asleep at the wheel and woke up upon colliding with a truck. The front of my car was crumpled, I've only injured my knee but at the time, it wasn't as painful as watching my car get towed away. Now I'm without a vehicle for the next month with damages to pay for and a reminder on my knee that I'm definitely not superwoman.

With that aside, I'm okay and I do have great news to share!

Throughout highschool and through each semester at Uni I've been well aware of where my interests lie - in fashion, accessories and beauty - interests that seem to not agree with my degree. But I've been able to get the best of both worlds at my Fashion HR internship with Who in The Zoo and now, I've finally been given an offer that I can't refuse.

Starting in two weeks time, I will be the new Online Manager and Marketing Assistant for Jade & Belle

It's almost like the stars had aligned, just in the nick of time! After a devastating blow, at least I know it'll only get better from here and I'm excited for whats to come :)

I also can't get enough of Masterchef.

I don't usually blog about the happenings of the weekend but this passing Saturday Fiona and I celebrated our birthday, it was the coming of a milestone age that should probably be worth a mention. Like most 21st birthdays, a bit too many photos were taken to share but a moment that I would like to have on my blog for keepsake from the night would have to be the surprise speeches.

Thank you for all of those who came, thank you to David Tran and Tash for being the DJs of the night, thank you to Fi for the cake, thank you to Amelia, Tammy, Wendy, Winnie, Tabitha and my boyfriend for the speeches and thank you so incredibly much to my amazing boyfriend for surprising me by singing my favourite Buble song. It was definitely the sweetest thing anybody has ever done for me, it was a beautiful surprise and I was a blubbering mess by the end of it (as you can see). I am so grateful and I love you so, so much.

As the date grew closer the stress of organising the party definitely dawned on me. I would like to give an honorable mention to those that helped me keep my sanity and a dishonorable mention to the boyfriend for stating that I'm scientifically proven to be twice as stressed as the average person in his speech...for that I have to announce that you purposely picked a purple striped top so we could 'subtly' match on Saturday haha.

You are amazing, all of you ♥

Thank you Saks for delivering the Arty Oval earlier than anticipated, it's been so long since I've recieved a package...and it still feels like Christmas every time! The arty oval was released in two new colours and I ended up pre-ordering the green. My heart is still yearning for the Lapis though so let's see how long it will be before I give in to YSL, again.

Last night the boyfriend and I indulged ourselves in celebratory gluttony at Rockpool for my birthday. Thank you for the dinner and thank you for the gift. It's beautiful and I will use it forever ♥

I haven't been given a decent amount of time to dress myself in the morning and with the recent change in weather, I'm going to miss having this pleated chiffon maiden as my first port of call. What can I say, I can never say no to chiffon....and I've also somehow managed to collect a ludicrous amount of skirts.

It's been a while since my last post and I know I owe this blog a lot more than a quick hello but balancing a blog in between three jobs and uni has turned into mayhem. I know I've been slow on the blogging front but I've been busy as a bee. I'm still working at Bardot and tutoring on Saturdays and as of this week....I am the new Fashion Recruitment Intern at Who in the Zoo!!!!

Who in the Zoo is the specialist recruitment agency for Fashion and Design industries in Sydney and Melbourne. Some of our clients include Camilla and Marc, Manning Cartell, Collette Dinnigan, Ginger & Smart and Lisa Ho and its a great opportunity for me to gain experience into the recruitment side of HR while also keeping in touch with my appreciation for fashion.

I haven't been thrown into the deep end yet, I've spent my days at the office getting advice from the senior consultants and looking at all the resumes and job applications we recieve to process through those that look promising. We have a combined office with Suboo so there are plenty of pretty kaftans and dresses to oogle on lunch break hehe. It's been an easy start, my only gripe so far would be.. travelling up and down the M5 in peak hour...or should I say, crawling up and down the M5 in peak hour.

Valentines Day also just passed, as you can see this year J and I went to see Michael Buble and I managed to get him the Palais quilt cover from Sheridan he's been consistently nagging me for! Haha I also made him another Domo card. Glad you liked the present, I hope you were surprised - Happy Valentines day my love!

Probably not the most flattering angle of my feet but on a hot day like this, that's as far as I'm willing to go outside. In preparation for Chinese New Year it's been all hustle and bustle this week at the Nguyen residence. The house has been cleaned, the flower plants are decorated with red envelopes and downstairs smells like a weirdly pleasant mix of incense and Chinese food.

But firstly, the story behind my new pride and joy - the Prada Saffiano Lux Tote.

My determination for Prada began in Japan when an old nappa bow wallet caught my eye at a second hand designer store. I was convinced then that I needed a continental Prada wallet in my life! But designer in Japan was expensive so I had to wait until America.

In Vegas I purchased my continental wallet from Prada at the Bellagio while my family friend intended to buy a bag but had troubles deciding on which one. I spent about an hour telling her how beautiful the Saffiano Lux Tote was and how she had to get it. I was successful, she got the bag haha

That night my parents offered me a proposition. If I was willing to return my wallet for store credit, they'd be happy to pay the amount left over for the Saffiano Lux Tote as a birthday gift. I didn't make a decision until our very last day in America.

Thankyou so, so much and more mum and dad!

and here the haul is. It might not be the best attempt but I had to sort out my luggage and have only thrown a few new things in the wash so this was the best I could produce for the time being!

I should really stop buying lipsticks. Especially nudes.

Miami, Vegas & LA

After a long 3 weeks away from home I'm finally blogging from my own bed. Which feels pretty darn amazing after spending an entire day confined to a seat on United Airlines. So here it goes, a summary of my last week in the US!

Spent a day exploring Miami, mainly around Ocean Dr. I also got to see where the assassination of Versace took place which I thought was interesting. The weather is great there too!

and we were on a plane to Vegas the next day. We stayed at the Bellagio in Vegas, their hotel lobby is beautiful! And so were the Bellagio fountain shows which you should definitely look up on youtube. It was the only thing I'd stand in the cold for!
We were directly opposite the Miracle Mile shops, I was so excited for Urban Outfitters! and for shopping in Caesars palace, right next door :D

Instead of blogging I've spent the past week on the biggest (and the most amazing!) cruise ship in the world, Royal Caribbean's Allure of the Seas! So here is a picture blog of that week, in a nutshell.

Day 5 and 6 in Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico!

On the way to wash off the salt water after power snorkelling in Costa Maya where I swam near a poisonous lion fish and held a starfish for the first time. I actually fear starfish. Holding it did not help my fear...the starfish started sucking onto my hand :'(

Went quadbiking through Cozumel jungle. Dirty but worth it!

Nobody told me that my goggles were crooked :(

I had a wonderful week on the Allure of the Seas. The ship had everything from broadway performances in the Ambre theatre (I watched Chicago there and enjoyed it so much!), Aqua aerobics shows at the Aqua theatre, complimentary pizza, donut, ice cream shops, buffets and cafes, a comedy lounge, jazz lounge, ice skating rink, a rock climbing wall, gaming arcade, mini golf coursea zip line from one end of the ship to the other, a whirlpool and even a surf machine!

It was my first time visiting Haiti and Mexico, two very exciting experiences! And I think I'm about ready to head home. After a week on the ship I spent a day in Miami, the last 3 days in Vegas and I just landed in LA.

Australia is one of the first countries to celebrate new years so spending it away from home and watching the CNN report on the Sydney fireworks really got me homesick :( I hope everybody enjoyed their NYE celebrations!

Florida is about 16 hours behind so the new year has only just arrived for me. It took an entire day to fly from Sydney to LA then LA to Florida so since I'm only spending 3 days here, instead of spending my NYE at Disneyland I explored the malls and outlets of Orlando :D by the time I got back to the hotel though I was too exhausted to even go out for dinner so I sank into a bathrobe and ordered room service. Room service = an overpriced mediocre herb butter stuffed chicken breast with a caesar salad that was predominately lettuce :(

On the upside to the unsatisfactory meal, my hotel is directly opposite Downtown Disney so I did end up strolling over to spend my new years countdown, Disney style. haha.

Today was my last day in Florida so we spent the entire day in Disney World then it's off to Miami bright and early tomorrow!

Blouse by Lovelycats-ski, Shorts by Queenswardrobe, Supre Bandeau & Belt, House of Harlow 1960 ring

The first time I saw a pair of High Waisted Chloe Scalloped Shorts it sent me into a scalloped coma. I now want everything scalloped - blazers, shorts, shirts... I've even tossed around the idea of cutting a scalloped hem into everything myself! Hahaha and after spotting a particular pair of simple scalloped bottoms here and here... I couldn't be more convinced that I needed these shorts in my life.

I finally found the perfect pair from Queenswardrobe and although the sizes for the shorts run a little big, the colour and hem were exactly what I was looking for and the shipping was amazingly fast! Unfortunately for my savings account.. now after that hurdle I'm also wanting their Wave Wing Collar blazer and surprisingly enough Bardot just got in a Scalloped Blazer this week!

I had a lot of fun doing a photoshoot with the ever so amazing Marcus Lim and Nina Nguyen yesterday. I only have a few of the unedited images so I'll have to wait for the photogs to work their magic on the pictures before I post up some more but working with them is always worth the partial blindness hahaha

In other news, my banana pudding is a working progress haha my caramel sauce was a bit burnt but at least the whipped cream and pudding turned out okay. Like they say, practice makes perfect! Or in my case, a great deal of practice usually makes perfect hahaha

Sometimes I wonder when it would be the right time to let the postman know that I consider him as a part of my close circle of friends hahahaha yesterday afternoon he popped by to give me my Shopbop package with my sunburst ring inside. I was ecstatic!

If you've been following my formspring you might have noticed that I've also been swooning over a pair of Topshop's Wisteria Chiffon tie wedges and if you're loving them as much as I am, what I'm about to say may cause you to froth at the mouth from excitement (because I know I nearly did! Hahaha)

Today, I tried on an exact pair of Chiffon tie wedges at ZU in Parramatta which are retailing for only $140RRP! Isn't your mouth just about ready to froth now! Hahaha They had both the nude and the black pair and they were... nothing short of amazing.

Unfortunately for me, I have trips to save for at the end of the year as well as a few pair of wedges at home and although they're not as beautiful as the chiffon tie wedges, I've still yet to make use of them so investing in another pair probably wouldn't be a wise decision. Having to put them down and walk away was really...really...hard :'( So if any of you decide to buy them, I will gladly live vicariously through you.

Bardot crotchet crop top, Bardot silk maxi skirt, Colette cuff

I've spent the last 72hours completing an essay so chances are, you're going to want the next 10minutes of your life back - don't say I didn't warn you.

First of all, Bardot decided to get rid of our staff uniform and now we're back to wearing current stock while we work... even though this meant that I had to involuntarily splurge this week (which also pulled me into a splurging spiral :(!) I admit that I'd much rather slip into a silk maxi than a pair of skinny jeans for work. Now all that's left to do is for me to figure out how to not trip over myself when I'm climbing ladders..

So last week while I was studying in the quiet area at uni, it started to get a bit hot so I took my scarf off and left it on the table next to me. Before I knew it, it was time to head to class so I hurriedly packed my things and left the room.

Halfway through my tutorial the air conditioner was starting to give me chills and I realized that I had left my scarf behind. I walked out of class, went back to the quiet area but it had dissapeared and nothing had been handed in at the information desk. On this fateful day, I parted with my scarf. The staple scarf that kept me warm all through winter.

A couple of days later Jermz had made a booking for us to eat at De Vine where he gave me a little gift to open...and of course, inside is the softest and warmest cashmere Giant Check scarf in the colour Trench, from Burberry. My favourite.

Although it's an underserved gift (especially considering that it was my own fault I had lost my last scarf) it's such a thoughtful gift and I'm definitely not going to lose this one.

At the risk of embarrassing him - he's the sweetest and I couldn't be more thankful (: hahaha

Speaking of sweet things, these were the sinful treats I made the other week...and my thighs will be sorry for this! :(

One Way top

It's a bit upsetting really, wasting such a fine day indoors...which probably explains the look of misery on my face. I'm sitting here holding a pen in one hand and smacking my forehead with the other for some bright ideas so I figured I needed a breather.

There didn't seem to be enough light on my balcony this morning for better photos but this is probably the first time I've made one consecutive post after the other so I can't say the effort isn't there! I did try to make sure my next few photos were of better quality though. If you can't already tell, I've even placed sheets of A4 paper in the backdrop in an attempt to brighten up the pictures (I won't lie, it felt like a fantastic idea at the time) but natural light didn't seem to want to cooperate today.... probably because it knows I'm procrastinating.

So here's the story behind the haul. My mum made me promise that I wouldn't buy any more cosmetics unless I was running low on something essential which made sense because vanity was getting a bit out of hand. Then just last week I recieved an invitation from one of my best friends who works at L'Oreal to attend a Prestige Cosmetics sale. I gave the invitation to my mum instead figuring that she'd make much better use of it then I would.

And of course, she came home with a bag, no, a sack full of Lancome and Biotherm products that afternoon (well now I know where I get my hoarding from) as well as a few YSL gifts for me. As much as I would've liked to accompany you at that sale - Thankyou so much mum (:

I know I've been a bit low on the blogging front but after an arduous four days of back-to-back work at the Peeptoe Warehouse I'm back and I've managed to reward myself with two pairs from the sale and the new Bardot Drape Front Blazer which we just got in last week at Bardot. With all shoe business aside I'm finally free of exams, home from a wonderful getaway in QLD and ready to get back into the swing of things! I've had a couple of things on my blogging agenda but I'm in the process of collating things for ANNIEPOPSHOP (which I plan to have up before the end of tonight!) so I'll get to all request posts soon after.

I think it's about time I turn over a new leaf. As of late my entries lack all substance and consistency ... to be honest the two or three entries I've been posting a month have all been due to procrastination and not much else. In a little over three weeks I'll be free of exams and I'll have time for more outfit posts, perhaps a tutorial here and there and more photos taken outdoors (even if the weather forbids it!) It might not be a valuable contribution to society but I miss how my blog used to be.

I know this is a flimsy post..a poor effort for somebody who's been on blogging hiatus for the past month, I know. But I've misplaced my camera charger so I haven't had the time or tools for a hearty post and good quality images but hopefully I'll get back into the swing of things soon!

Exams aside, I have three extra things to look forwards to: Buble, Ne-yo and..Japan! Experiences which I can share with my new best friends, namely my thigh high suede boots and my fringed open toe booties. Ahhh, it feels good to finally satisfy my shoe cravings!

I've taken three weeks off work for exam preparation and I'm kind of relieved I won't be assigned to the denim wall while Bardot is having a $99 sale on all denim, the sale ends next week so hurry hurry hurry! Our genuine leather jackets are also down to $199 - an offer I could hardly refuse and scored myself a nice warm Leather Waterfall Jacket.... and so too should you! Hahaha

Now, I haven't been too good with saving this week but I found a way to assure myself that these are the necessities for winter hahaha I also have a DIY post coming up for the jumper I've made in the first picture which I'll have up and running once I find my camera charger!

For the second half of this post I must thank Amanda for showing me the wonderful ways of L.A girl polishes! Super cheap nail varnishes with two new great limited edition collections: Matte and Rockstar. I've barely had the time to decorate my own nails so I don't have swatches up yet but it's probably best I save those for my better quality camera. For now I hope these images will suffice!

These two are without a doubt my two favourite colours, these photos just don't do them justice! Double Platinum is a very sheer grey/taupe colour with holographic glitter specs, the glitter is amazing in the light. I wish all my polishes were holographic! Overdose looks very similar to OPI's Mad as a Hatter but the glitter specs are slightly finer, and there is a lot more purple than there is silver. Two wonderful colours.

I'm not sure if Lincraft or Spotlight have any similar replacement studs but I think you're best off getting a hot glue gun to glue them back to the garment. It sucks to hear that the studs are coming off the cinderbox jacket! :(

I definitely take pleasure in learning about fashion and makeup but they're merely for leisure pursuit. Having the ability to pursue a career in either industry would be like a dream but the people that find success in fashion/makeup are exceedingly good at what they do, I don't think I possess enough creativity or potential to excel in those areas. Besides that, I never enjoyed Science or Math subjects but Economics and English were my stronger points so choosing Business just made sense I guess.

They are from the Pro nail store in Bankstown, OPI polishes are $10 and China Glaze polishes are $5!

Yes it is, the ST500 also has the 2 screens. In regards to the haggling, if you're planning to purchase from JB they're fairly lenient so don't hesitate to ask for a better price!

Anonymous: How much were the tickets to Fiji, how did you afford them?!
I'm not sure how much the airfares were, the tickets were a surprise! My parents came home from their holiday in Asia and were meant to leave the following week to go to Fiji without my brother and I but since we didn't get to enjoy their Asia trip with them they surprised us and so I spontaneously packed for a trip to Fiji!

For our Bardot uniform we have to wear a jacket similar to this one, a dusty pink top which I've yet to see and we have the option of choosing between the high waisted Iris jeans or Marley skinny jeans, we do get the uniform for free but I'm not looking forward to squeezing into jeans every work morning =\

She's a dressmaker for Mr.K which sells dresses at stores like Harts, she also sells dresses for labels under Adella Clothing and we occassionally get other random labels in, we only have two bracewell dresses in at the moment so as much as I wish we did, we don't carry a whole stock of Bracewell :( and I don't live by myself! I live at home with my family, I don't think I have a stable enough income to manage alone just yet!

That's sweet of you to say but I don't really think I should be much of an inspiration for anybody, still to this date I don't know what I'd aspire to be. I guess out of convenience, I'd like to complete my degree and work in the HR department of a decent firm but as far as aspirations go, I haven't got a clue.

Right next to my vanity my entire wall is made up of the mirrored doors of my wardrove. I usually do my makeup standing right up against the wall which is just a step away from my vanity. The lighting in my room is fairly dim most times so I'd have to be as close to my reflection as possible, that and because, I obviously love myself too much. hahaha.

Hmmm I would usually say stores like Seduce, Abyss, Shieke, DJ's, Myer but when it's formal season those places are everybody else's first pick. For my year 10 formal I just borrowed a dress from Mr.K, for my year 12 formal I bought a dress from Shieke but ended up making my own dress because at the time I couldn't find a dress with side cut-outs around the waist (now they seem to be everywhere!) so I'd say get creative, flip through a lot of magazines, look up dresses online, find the right fabric and come up with your own dress. In the mean time shop around for a back-up dress incase you change your mind!

Anonymous: What do you think of the pink matte polish; really bright or a wearable colour. Do you have any photos in it with an outfit?
The pink matte polish is ridiculously bright but that's why I love it. I think your nails can be as bold and bright as you want them to be and you'd still look sane with them, of course some colours are better for certain occasions but the matte polishes are wearable for a casual day out, right now I have on Jade is the new black, once I take the Pazitively Hot out for a spin I'll be sure to snap some photos!

Hi Anonymous! Yes I'm in the city every Thursday for uni but I may have just been glowing from sweat, this passing week has been the week of my exams so I have no idea as to how I could look half decent on an exam day! I was just wearing my Revlon Colorstay foundation and I set it with my MAC MSF Natural. Yes I do get pimples! In fact my skin has been so temperamental these past couple of weeks I've had trouble controlling the random spots that appear on my face - I blame it on the coffee and lack of excercise.

In terms of clothes, not really but in terms of nailpolish and other nit bits - yes! Haha. I've been trying to ration a portion of my pay into my untouchable account per fornight so to date I haven't had much time or money to shop around (or even shop online!) but recent things I've delved in include:

The matte collection is amazing, unlike any nail varnish I've ever seen! It's almost as if I've coloured in my nails with texta and I love how ridiculously matte the finish is. Yes I still have the piercings, I haven't experienced any complications but the piercings do get troublesome at times especially with all my hair! This is why I usually try and have my hair up to the side or part my hair away from the piercings. I would always forget at first but it's sort of become second nature now, on the days I don't feel like having them there I cover them with spot bandaids. If you are planning to get them, I don't think it's the pain you should worry about, it's whether or not you'd have the time and patience to look after it and if you do, then go for it!

The cuff and jewellery from my last post are all from Diva, the cuff was from a while back though!

J: i like how your hair fades into light brown at the tips its really pretty did you dye it like that or is it just natural?
It's sweet that you do J but I don't think it suits me :( The only reason it's brown at the tips is because a while ago I wanted my hair to be a light colour and in order for it to get that way I had to strip my current colour out, I've dyed it back to black plenty of times after this but what remains of my once stripped hair always turns to brown.

No I haven't, I was capped after my last post and have been motionless since!..well till now of course. Hey there Annie! Besides the cheap local chain stores like Freelance shoes or Marco Gianni, your best bet would be cheap online stores! Forever21 has super cheap alternatives and you'd probably find a decent pair or two on Ebay. I only just got uncapped today so I haven't had much of a chance to search around myself :( Peeptoe shoes did have there first ever online warehouse sale too!

The camera that you claimed to be your friend's 'Winnie'? The image quality is tops! Please get back to me asap when you can because I'm in need of a new camera. :)
I loved the image quality from the photos too so I went out and got one myself so luckily I can be of quite assistance for this question! Hahaha. The camera is a Samsung ST500 and most places will now stock the newer version which is the ST550 but there's a fair price difference between the two and not that much difference in functions. Winnie got hers at JB Hi Fi but when I went there I was told they didn't stock it anymore. I found it for pre-order at The Good Guys but I started doing research, liked a different camera, bought it from JB Hi Fi, didn't like it, returned it and refused store credit from JB then all of a sudden JB was able to order the ST500 in for me from a different store! I haggled the price down to $340 I think it was, including 4GB memory card and warranty!

So happy I could die. ....very photoheavy!

I'm usually never disconcerted about the idea of being home but right now, I wish my long weekend getaway never ended. This passing month has been like no other; life has changed, things have shaped up and I find myself in high spirits. I'm happy, so incredibly happy.

Which is probably beyond everybody's concern haha. What's been of concern lately though is the holding capacity of the vanity desktop. My assembly of things seems so nonsensical but I'm all out of ideas, I simply do not have enough space in this room! No room in the room!

Anonymous: You're sooo cute! :D I need some help picking out MAC cosmetics :( I'm after a dewy kind of effect and I dont like the feel of too much foundation on me but I go red very easily when i drink alcohol so I need something that can counteract that. The last time I went to a Mac counter, I got Select Tint SPF 15 in NC40 which i think is pretty light and i did like it, but it didnt cover enough.. :( Sorry for the long post! HAHA
Hi there fellow NC40-er! This may or may not be relevant to you but taking Zantac 30mins prior to drinking will help reduce redness and may save you from playing trial and error at the MAC counter! I haven't tried many MAC foundations myself, I find that my skin is pretty sensitive with MAC foundations and most formulas cause me to break out but if you're unsure of what to get you can request to have a sample of all different things to bring home. Some things I would reccomend though may be the Chanel Pro Lumiere foundation. It feels so light on your skin, the coverage is buildable and when I use it I tend to not need concealer.

There's also the cream-to-powder option - the Chanel Teint Innocence Naturally Luminous Compact. Even though the foundation itself is described as 'sheer coverage' the formula is a bit more creamy with a bit more coverage, the coverage is also buildable without being too heavy on your skin. It's also in a little compact handy for touch ups when you're out and about :D Both these foundations however, may be great for a dewy finish and good for normal/dry skin but combination/oily skin may need a blot here and there throughout the day.

For a more cost efficient option there's good ol' Revlon Colorstay foundation. Although it may seem thick you'd only need to buff the tiniest amount of foundation to cover any imperfections - but the finish is much more matte than it is dewy. It's quite a good, inexpensive, full coverage option though!

Anonymous: anniee, what shops do you go into at parra? and whats your suggestion on buying bardot clothes? like what clothes do you think looks good at your store???
Shops I go into at parra? Oh boy. On my lunch breaks I wander just about anywhere! Sportsgirl, Myer, DJ's, Forever New, Witchery, Seduce, Abyss, Kookai, Valleygirl, even GP despite the mild awkwardness Hahaha, my dire need to shop conquers all tension! I still stand by my last Bardot picks from a couple entries back as what I think looks good at the store, we have quite a lot of new arrivals that are yet to be updated online that tickle my fancy, once they're up I'll find a home for them in an entry or two.

Vivian: Hi Annie, I was wondering where you bought your shoes (especially the wedge booties) from?
All my wedged booties have been from either Top Shop, Urban outfitters or Shoesone, I haven't even gotten around to wearing most of them :(

Those suede boots are pretty nifty aren't they! Since the suede is fairly thin they're also convertible into suede ankle booties! Bardot staff recieve 50% off our footwear.

And now to finally make a long postponed insert about my trip to Fiji! Fiji was breathtakingly beautiful. Waking up from an afternoon nap along the beach or by the pool felt like waking up in a postcard. Fiji would have been great as a romantic getaway (which explains why it was flooded with couples and newlyweds) but as for travelling with family - after all the snorkelling, kayaking and other fun things were done and dusted my brother and I really didn't have that much to do. You can only have so much of the ocean and pool before your fingertips begin to prune and so much relaxation before you miss the fun and laughter of .. people other than your sibling LOL I would definitely travel there again though, maybe with different company haha but for the most part I loved Fiji!

An old shirt, machine-washable acrylic paint, scissors, paper, tape, pencil, paintbrush plus 5 minutes of your day and you've got yourself the simplest little DIY.

I also whipped out my scissors and some chalk to shred an old pair of black jeans. Surprisingly enough I'm becoming quite the pants girl - which makes me wonder - what's happening to the world?

Things to do: Fix the car, get my fulls, post up items for blogshop, buy that desk and nailpolish post up next.

Anonymous: i was just wondering, seeing you friend works at model co would she know whether the Model Co Turbo Lash Wand actually works? or even better have you tried it :)?
I haven't tried the Model Co Turbo Lash Wand but my Model Co friend Wendy suggests that you're better off not grabbing the Turbo Lash Wand and invest in the Shu Uemura heated curler instead which surprisingly isn't all that pricey!

I actually don't reccommend ordering from the site unless you have a friend that could help you find your way around it. We ordered together and although the things were quite cheap, shipping fees were quite high, our parcel took a long time to arrive and was left at the door on arrival - exposed to the dangers of the world!

I appreciate that you thought of me as thin, I really do! Because as decieving as these photos may be, I'm actually quite a meaty girl. I can hardly pull my old skinnies past my kankles and I definitely do not remember the last time I could comfortable slip into size 6 clothing. My golden years have left me to soon! But I guess I really only have myself to blame - I'm not afraid to wolf down fast food and can't seem to fit an excercise regime into my week. Laziness has defeated me.

Those thigh high socks were my saviour! They left me with clean legs after a long day of galavanting around the dirt :D They were super cheap, about $6 or so from Paddy's Market.

It's been too long. Life has turned upside down during this past month of hiatus, but, big blue "New Post" button - we will no longer be estranged! I won't stand for it! It'll be a quick post today but I'll be sure to make posts a regular thing, again.

Life in a nutshell: Uni, stocktake at work, sometimes I forget to breathe.

Since my last banter my teenage years have also left me :( but on the upside I have some birthday goodies to share, without this I can't think of much else that would be blog-worthy besides the withdrawal symptoms from this make-up ban!

Fiona and Amy obviously agree that I need to do more for my hygiene, but thats what friends are for hahaha. Thankyou for helping me conquer my long covet list of LUSH :) I've yet to use them all so I can't say much apart from how they all smell amazing.

My search for 'My Private Jet' is over and it's even found a new friend in 'Mad as a Hatter' from OPI's Alice in Wonderland collection, part of my birthday present from my ModelCo friend (who should really be working at OPI) Wendy. It's possibly the most beautiful OPI to ever exist, thankyou!

Okay maybe I fibbed a little. To pass up the Azalea Blossom and Ripe Peach blush ombres at MAC would be the most heinous act! Laura's haul posts weren't helping either, hauls can be so toxic. I still consider myself on a ban though, I've been doing well. I think ultimately though, no rehab could fix me!

Anonymous: Hey annie just wondering if you can help me out. From your recent post, i heard you bought the st550 samsung camera (the one with the two LCD screens). I have one myself although when I upload the photos onto my laptop, my photos dont turn out as VIBRANT as it looks on the camera. Do you have any idea how to change the settings for this? Thankyou so much!
I'm not sure if I'm much help because I'm still fiddling around with the settings myself but you can adjust the colour of the photos when its on camera mode. There should be a little arrow at the bottom of the screen & when you press it a little menu pops up. Click on the fifth button from the left on the menu, click on RGB and you can customize your own RGB, hopefully that helps a lil'!

There's less than 2 weeks until uni starts again, 3 weeks until my birthday and I'm also meant to be graduating this year...isn't that absurd? But I'm prolonging my stay for another semester or so, I've picked three subjects for the upcoming semesters instead of four and I vow to use my time wisely and blog - I mean - no! - get my GPA up and get some direction! Working at Bardot is wonderful but it's really not a career. Okay enough about my 'future', I'm getting forehead wrinkles just thinking about it.

I still haven't blogged about my trip to Fiji or uploaded pictures of the things I want to sell but I should get to it before my break ends, not like it mattered much but my conscience says 'do it!'.

The Ladakh sale was surprisingly dissapointing this time around. The $10-20 tops & bottoms rule no longer applies, now theres $20 tops, $30 bottoms, $40 denim and $60 dresses including old stock lying around, now for a higher price- it's preposterous! I did pick out a top I really liked though (right) and the blazer on the left was my best buy this week!

To be honest I feel like I don't have a sense of 'style' or what have you - I hardly ever shop beyond the store now :( but on the upside it means I can answer your question in a matter of seconds! We get new arrivals every week and our website is a tad delayed but here are some of our New Arrivals that I am loving (and I tossed in the Drape Chambray & Cinderbox jackets because I still love them and I needed to fill some space!). The Chambray contrast jacket did look odd at first but after wearing it for a while you grow to love it! And oh Louis Sateen dress! If there is an occasion and the weather permits it I'll definitely take you out!

I did it. It took a lot of willpower (and physical power! haha) but I've squeezed into my first pair of jeans in three years, and I surprisingly liked them. After helping one girl after another into our Stella skinnies and feeling content for the day to serve such satisfied customers, this week I decided I wanted in.

I also ended up purchasing the Olympus camera... and returning it. The camera produced large photos, had a wide angle lens and great settings but the colour of the flash made my pictures turn out dull and unsightly. Before all this, I've walked into JB looking for the samsung st500 and with each visit came "we don't sell that camera" suddenly now when asking for a full refund the store manager was able to make a few calls and place an order on the st500 for me. Persistence has paid off! I'm kind of bummed that the Olympus and I didn't work out though :(

I feel like a bad online shopper for saying this but it never occured to me to read up on reviews for forever21. I just went ahead and assumed that being a well known chain store would mean that I could shop online securely! Luckily I had an okay experience with the site. They took a while to ship, about 2 weeks, but there were no glitches. Once my package was shipped I recieved tracking information so I could be updated on the status of my order. Everything arrived perfectly but like any other american website, postage and handling costs were a bit heavy. I tried to order over $100.01 to get the $35 flat rate for shipping but besides that f21 are having a further sale on their sale items so now is a good time to place an order! The camera I actually use to take my blog photos with is the Canon IXUS 90 IS which is a great camera but it belongs to my parents haha. I have a friend who works at a camera store who advised me to not get a Sony camera because it's not durable. I personally don't know anything about cameras so I'm not the best person to ask haha but what I do know is that my Sony Cybershot only lasted me about a year before it curdled.

In this weather - who doesn't have sweaty hands! hahaha. My lovely friend Laura used to work at Diva and posted a comment right after about the cleaning cloths to stop the rings from tarnishing. You can also try coating the back and insides of the ring with clear nailpolish (it'll also stop your fingers from turning green!) or you can store your rings in fabric pouches.

Tarnishing can also be fixed! If your rings are already tarnished and you'd like to fix them there are a couple of remedies you could try.

For silver rings first you need to clean all the dirt off your ring by dipping a soft cloth in some mild dish soap water and rub the dirt off your ring. After this is done, rinse the ring in cold water and dry with another soft clean cloth.

Then make a paste consisting of three parts baking soda and one part water. Apply some paste to a clean soft cloth and rub the ring to remove the tarnish. When the cloth turns gray, use a different area of the cloth. When finished, rinse the ring in cold water and buff it dry with a soft clean cloth.

For copper or brass rings, pour enough white vinegar in a container to cover your rings. Add about a teaspoon of salt. Swirl your rings around and tarnish should disappear within a minute. Rinse with cold water and dry with a clean soft cloth!

Oh! and my mum actually bought the bag for me when she went to Taiwan! They didn't actually have enough luggage space to bring home everything all at once so our family friends who stayed at Taiwan with my parents came home a week later with some more Taiwan goodies!

Not really anything beauty or fashion related this time around. I've just got some pretty beat up furniture to replace and a camera that has lost it's will to live so here goes my shopping list. 3. Nail polish rack and new jewelry stands: I need a home for my pile of polish and it's about time to clear out some of the old rusted jewellery!
4. Acne Atacoma Lace up metal wedge ankle boot: And last but not least - it never hurts to treat yourself to a goodlooking pair of wedges right? Oohhh, ever so famous Acne wedges, the things I would do for you....I guess they can wait though :P

So a couple of weeks back Nina and I were spectators at the auditions for Australia's Next Top Model and Charlotte Dawson's jacket brought out the leopard in me! The girls that audtioned were stunning each with a never-ending pair of pins, ahh - how wonderful it would be to be tall, beautiful and fabulous!

Personally I wouldn't buy things online but if you don't have access to a store and you're willing to risk not liking the product then the LUSH website is definitely a safe place to shop but you won't be able to smell and touch your products before buying and if you live in a hot area there's the risk of the product melting before it gets to your door!

After I placed my order I actually got sent an email asking for a number they could use to get in contact with the cardholder so I had to email them the country code + area code + phone number for them to be able to get in contact with from America. There are a few downsides to ordering from UO: I love their Jewellery stands but they're not able to ship them to Australia, shipping charges were quite heavy, quite a bit of wait for delivery but every time I had to get in contact with them by email their responses were almost immediate :)

Makeup and fashion are two categories of just about every girl's common interests. Fashion trends change with the season and people are more than likely going to wound up lusting over similar things. Everyone has their own rights to what they want and what they're influenced by, to discourage people from how they express themselves would just be ridiculous! As for my 'signature hairstyle' I can't even claim it my own, my mother originally sported a much more polished version of the do for a formal event and I've stuck with it for years but I've merely just been a loyal fan!

MSF Frenzy

When I realized my bottle of Revlon Colorstay Foundation had no more love to give, strangely I felt a bit liberated. On my way to work I was reminded why... MAC's Warm & Cozy Collection just released the day before and I had an itch for those MSFs - I had it bad!

I know my New Year's resolution was to only buy make up once I've hit pan but who said it had to be one for one? I woke up the next day with a spot on my face so I've paid for my mischief but part of me commends myself for only snatching up two things, the shadesticks were very worth breaking the bank for!

Comfort and By Candelight MSF from the Warm & Cozy collection

Comfort MSF

'Comfort' is a deep bronze with gold veining. It actually is not frosty when applied, it's a lot darker than other bronze MSFs but still gives off a subtle sheen on the skin. Shimmer is minimal and it has quickly become one of my new favourite MSFs!

By Candelight MSF

'By Candelight' is described as a "Golden Pink". Next to 'Soft and Gentle' they could almost pass as twins, both look frosty and both with minimal (if any) veining but surprisingly when swatched, 'By Candelight' is darker with a lot less frost, which I love!

While we're on the topic of MSF's I'll attempt to answer a question I've recieved countless times:

"What are MSFs ?"

MSF - the acronym for Mineralize Skinfinish powders.
They're dome shaped multi-purpose powders which contain minerals and can be used to "add buffed-up highlights to cheeks and brows, or an overall ultra-deluxe polish to the face". They're slowly baked on terracotta tiles therefore can be used wet or dry without causing any damage to the product still inside the compact, each compact contains enough product to last a lifetime, each is unique in colour and veining and I am crazy over peach and bronze MSFs!

Collecting MSFs is a common MAC cult. Almost all MSFs are limited edition and with all the hype over new MSF releases, it's either now or never. Once an MSF becomes rare they're usually listed at crazy prices on ebay. I remember missing out on Shooting Star and watching them sell on ebay for up to $90AUD! Insanity!

There are two types of MSFs. The first type is MSF Natural which come in 7 shades, are completely matte and used as a finishing powder to set and fix foundation.

Medium Dark MSF Natural, Dark Natural & Shimmer MSF

Medium Dark MSF Natural

These MSFs are part of the permanent collection and probably the least domed of all my MSFs because I use it almost all the time.

Dark Natural & Shimmer MSF

This is a limited edition MSF Natural which comes with its own chunk of shimmer. The shimmer is SO pigmented but a bit too frosty to use on its own. But with a little bit o' this and a little bit o' that they make a pretty little mix!

And the remaining MSFs are limited edition (except Gold Deposit and Soft & Gentle, the only 2 permanent MSFs)

Petticoat, Soft and Gentle, Triple Fusion MSFs

(The labelling of the swatches of Petticoat + Soft & Gentle should actually be the other way around!)

Petticoat MSF

'Petticoat' is a pale rose with gold and amber veining. Probably the most beautiful veining of all my MSFs and although it's limited edition and hard to find I'm pretty sure you can still order it from the MAC website online. Although its described as "Pale rose" its quite dark with a beautiful amber sheen.

Soft And Gentle MSF

Described as a "gilded peach bronze". Its very frosty and almost the powdered version of Benefit's high beam. This is my mum's favourite hehe

Triple Fusion MSF

Part of the Color Craft collection and not as smooth in texture as the other MSFs. Its high in shimmer and frost and a lot more glittery.

Warmed, Gold Deposit, So Ceylon MSF

Warmed MSF

Golden Bronze with light yellow gold veining. It's a beautiful golden peach on the skin with minimal glitter but a pretty little sheen!

Gold Deposit MSF

Soft reflective golden bronze. This is also chunkier than other MSFs and higher in glitter which means it should be used in moderation - part of the permanent collection.

So Ceylon MSF

Pink bronze with a gold amber veining. One of the famous MSFs but surprisingly not one of my favourites. Its very rosey and quite pink for a bronze based MSF but another one of mother's favourites :)

This is probably the fastest I've updated, why? Because:

1. I am capped and with these pictures already uploaded into a post I decided to finally post it since nothing else will load.
2. In 5 days I will be off to Fiji!

Four more NARS compacts later and I realize... the amount of blush I have is ridiculous, the amount I spend on makeup is ridiculous and the only thing I can see in my near future is being diagnosed with compulsive hoarding...

So on my list of New Year's Resolutions will be: To only buy makeup once I've hit pan (I'm aware that this rule will be tweaked through the course of the year but ..eh, I tried.)

But with one category of cosmetics aside, I've been won over by the fresh handmade cosmetics of LUSH. I've drifted in and out of interest with LUSH in the past but I fell back into relapse when one of my best friends, Fiona, let me have a big ol' whiff of her Snow Fairy lip balm.

I gave LUSH a visit, bought some soaps, recieved some samples and we literally spent a whole night watching LUSH hauls on the tube and discussing bubble bars and bath ballistics. Next thing you know, I'm a sworn LUSH fanatic and seeing that one of my new faves in blog world has already fallen into the same ordeal (yes jenny, that is you, hah!) just reassures me that it's okay, spending this much on soaps and such is not that ridiculous ....and I am not alone hahaha.

So I mentioned in my January 1st post that I had a few LUSH things to discuss, I haven't actually got to use them all yet so the best I can do for now is pictures and scent descriptions which is kind of hard because everyone interprets scents differently. I guess this will be "useless-LUSH-rave" for short.

Honey I washed the kids
Is meant to calm sore, sensitive epidermis with rich aloe vera lather to leave the skin feeling smooth. It's LUSH's best selling soap and the scent is described as "sticky toffee and honey with hints of bergamot and orange". I can't smell the bergamot or orange and the smell of "sticky toffee and honey" is really slight, it kind of smells like hardened caramel. The honeycomb top smells a bit sweeter than the rest of the soap but the sweet smell is very subtle. See what I mean by it's hard to describe the scents? haha

Rockstar
Is meant to give a "creamy candy bath" and smell like "sweet, vanilla perfume" but it actually smells exactly like Red Skins! Like sweet raspberry candy and the scent is amazing in the shower. I sliced a chunk to use as hand soap and now I can't stop smelling my hands.. how very lady-like! :P

Vanilla in the mist
There are actually black streaks on top of the soap which are meant to be "real vanilla pods, from the vanilla orchid, dried, crushed and fragrant." The scent should have a dash of coconut and tonka but I think it smells exactly like coconut. Sweet, soapy, coconut.

Ice Blue
Is meant to wake you up in the morning and leave a "peppermint lather" on your skin but it's very minty, kind of smells like toothpaste. I hate the smell of toothpaste.

Sea Vegetable
Has a crust layer of sea salt and black pieces of arame seaweed which should nourish and revive dull skin and "give it the scent of the seaside". LUSH describes the scent as lavender and lime oils but it's sort of like minty menthol.

So, the main reason for my lack of updates was because my parents had taken their camera on their Vietnam/Taiwan trip but they're back now! I actually just picked them up from the airport this morning.

Even though I told my mum didn't know what I wanted from Taiwan.. I think she sort of picked up on my fascination with studded things - the amount of studs on the shoes is a bit ludicrous but it was a sweet gesture and it made me laugh haha thankyou mother! She also bought a couple more Fendi goodies from Duty Free for herself. My favourite of her Fendis was her Black Chef Med Boston but she was using it for the day so I'll snap a picture next time.

This entry took forever to do, my brother is downloading Avatar and my laptop is about to have a meltdown. Avatar by the way, is one of the best movies ... ever.

7:00am on New Years Eve and I was up at work manually counting and restocking all the full priced items before opening time. About three coffees and eight hours later I drove home to prep up the house for a night of food, friends and $400 worth of fireworks - it was a blast!

I haven't had the urge to buy things but I find myself having to for the sake of work, which sounds like a pleasure but sometimes - it's a pain ($$$)!

Funny thing is I was just about to post up a question asking for xmas pressie ideas for the boyf! I had a plan to save up for things he really wanted and used, like part of his home entertainment system. But he's bought his own and it's better than what I could've given him - so that idea has gone down the gutter! He has said he wants a few things from IKEA, even though he thinks I won't be able to afford the things he wants I'm willing to cash in my next few paycheques and if anything get him a belated pressie - one that he'll make use of! Last year I got him a DVD player, the three seasons of Family Guy he didn't have and a Mossimo belt. Other pressies I've given him has just been things like Lacoste shoes, belts, jackets, shirts, Nintendo DS - guy presents are so difficult! This year I'm clueless :(

My parents are leaving to the coast this weekend then overseas on the 28th so, with the duty-free opportunity, my mother surprised me one night with an early Christmas gift!

She had been meaning to wait until Christmas but thought it was better if I could make some use of it now before their overseas trip since she'll be taking it along with her to claim back the GST at the airport. She surprised me with a Speedy and revealed that she also treated herself to a Fendi Chef Boston hehehe, nothing says x-mas like a self-pressie! Thankyou mother dearest, I promise to take good care of the house + pets! (If gifting me with a bag was a bribe for extra good behaviour ... it sure as hell worked hahaha)

My vanity (as you've probably seen) is a complete clutter. So I've been raiding the storage and kitchenware store sections for cake displays and pantry organisers which finally came down to this:

Still cluttered but there's finally a clearing on the table-top!

I found a 3-shelf pantry organizer (Target), plastic utensils container (Target) which I placed on the top shelf of the pantry organizer for MAC compacts and an X-Cube organizer (Officeworks) for lippies and mascaras.

A little cake display (Target) for cuffs, rings and bobbypins and things that have no place on the jewellery stand.

A 4-shelf and 4-drawer cabinent (Target) for bottled things and I just sort of shoved my boots on a store-display stand my dad grabbed from a pharmacy from work. I also thought I'd show you the Paul's boutique bracelet I got for myself purely because it had Paul's name on it - my friends think I'm psychotic! hahahaha

I've been bugging Paul to come with me to IKEA, just thinking about the storage shelves they'd have makes me feel all tingly inside! But we haven't had time to do so and whether or not he can come with I should head there soon for a gingerbread house kit - most exciting buy of the season! ... and usually the buy I can never grab in time :(

This week the store owner will be coming in and out of work which means best behaviour and sporting latest stock.

Summer party + Stereosonic

It's summer holidays but I still haven't had a decent night's sleep. It's been one activity to the next and microdermal after-care in between so blog-wise I've been pretty inactive, most of my internet time is now used to email Amy and Amelia- two of my best friends on completely different continents that won't be back until next year :(

The fainting spell I had last week was from dehydration and since then I've unintentionally water loaded, my stomachs been in complete bloat-mode! Thank goodness for my cupboard full of loose fitting clothes hehe.

The week leading up to the Summer Party has been quite frantic. Since I lost my wallet I had debt to pay off, things to report missing and IDs + cards to be replaced. Then before I knew it it was Thursday night and time for frantic last-minute outfit shopping, my wallet was cardless so I grabbed what I could afford with the little dosh I had leftover and it was Summer Party the next night then Stereosonic the following morning.

I spent most of my Summer Party experience being pushed and shoved around, The only place with any moving space was in the public toilets (below) haha

and when the morning came it was time for Stereosonic. These photos are from Winnie's camera (which I love! Hint hint, new camera for Christmas Santa? hahaha)

The next morning I had to wake up for work and my calves were aching! Working at Bardot has been good though, a lot more laid back than General Pants. But it does scare me that my mindset at the moment is - "I don't care what my wage is, as long as I'm not couped up at a desk all day, I'm happy." ..sitting at a desk is basically ....the rest of my life after graduation :(

I don't know if I should mention the digits but I agree, he was lucky. I would go into another fainting spell if I had to explain to you how he played to win the amount he did though, agh my heart!

And about my piercings, I've still got about another week or two before I can take the spot bandaids off, the only time they're exposed is when I'm cleaning them so really only 4 people have seen them haha - here they are, fresh and only 8 days old.

Anonymous: hey annie did your microdermals hurt? how much did they cost and where did you get them done? post up a picture please =o)
The dermals were done at Industrie8 which are $90 each and $160 for two, then theres other costs like antiseptic and salt water sprays which are about $10-15 each.

I don't tolerate pain well. The only other piercings I've had are my ears and bellybutton so I went in expecting the worst ... but it was actually ok! The only real pain I felt was from adjustments. When he inserted the left dermal my body tensed up and it wasn't as flat as I wanted it to be so the dermal needed to be adjusted and pushed down into place but it was only a couple more seconds of adjustment pain and it was over!

Xtina: how long do dermals take to heal? does it hurt? i'm thinking of getting them on my back toooooo =] is it hard to look after?
The time it takes to heal depends on the location of the dermals, I think its a minimum of 2 weeks healing time (but then again, I'm only a patient, not a piercer! haha) but I can tell you that they've been the most easy going piercings I've had.

The after care I was given was an antiseptic spray and a salt water spray which you pretty much spray on the peircings 3 times a day. The antiseptic spray is wiped with clean tissue and the salt water spray is left to completely dry before applying the spot bandaids.

So they're pretty easy to look after, the only downside is that I'm allergic to the sticky part of the bandaid so I get a bit red and itchy but I've resisted the temptation to scratch then my gorgeous Bettina checked up on the dermals and gently scratched where the bandaid had made me itch, it felt so good, I swear I could have married here then and there LOL.

Anonymous: how long did it take to put in the microdermal piercings?
I think it took about 5-10minutes or so, it's a bit more fiddly than normal piercings but it's nothing terrible. I wanted to record it but I wasn't allowed to, which is probably a good thing. Watching the procedure on youtube never really helped me calm down all that much :

Clothes & MU

This afternoon I got two flat microdermal piercings on my back, just under my neck. Then something scary happened when I got home. I was in the bathroom with my brother explaining to him how to clean the piercings for me then my hands and arms began to tingle and when I looked up into the mirror my vision was gone.

The next thing I remember was staring at the mirror again and everything was really faint and grainy, my vision only came back when I sat down. My brother told me I was about to fall and began shaking and he held me upright for about 5mins until it stopped. I wasn't scared or nervous before I blacked out, it just sort of happened out of the blue.
Has this ever happened to anybody before? Did I just faint? Did my piercings have anything to do with it?

Apart from that, I'm happy I got the dermals done. The one on my right is just perfect but the one on my left seems a bit alleviated, I think I have to go back for another painful adjustment. The adjustments were the worst part of the whole procedure :( I have to put spot bandaids on them for the next 2 weeks, hopefully they heal fast and everything turns out a-ok!

The Ladakh & Anise buys were from the sale. I know I was meant to notify when the next sale was going to be but it was mid-exam time and I had no clue until the morning of the sale by Wendy's morning wake-up call LOL

Now to explain the extensive haul like I said I would.. I did mention that the boyf had a lucky turn at roulette, he managed to score himself enough for the home entertainment system he'd been wanting and a shopping spree for his girlf :) I don't remember exactly which items of clothing were from the spree but I can tell you that I was given a limit to spend within a 1 day span and it was a lot more stressful then it was bliss! The bliss only set in when the shopping bags arrived home but my conscience was still weak, I had myself a shopping hangover the next day even though I knew most things were courtesy of a Star City cheque haha. I'm satisfied though, the shoes really put the icing on the cake and to my Paulfish - this Christmas, next Valentines, Anniversary, Birthday.. whatever the occasion.. I would not be able to accept another gift from you. I would like a card though.... actually write me a nice letter.. LOL

My amateur nail art isn't coming far along, I realized while doing Fiona's nails the other day- I do not have steady hands! I was trembling with the deco pens and kept ruining the nails :( but it felt good to have a nice girly day of shopping and nails. I did the leopard print on Tammy using Great Barrier Beige, V and Black LA colours art pen, blue/black on Fiona using For Audrey & Black LA colours art pen and the white/black on myself using Liquid Leather and White on white ..yes, that last hand with the ugly wrinkly fingers are mine :(

Housekeeping & Life

Whenever I do one of these posts, seems like the tumbleweed keeps rolling by and nothing else hahaha. Life posts. Yes or No?

These past few weeks have been a horror. For the brief moment when it felt like do or die - I had myself convinced it was die. But it's all a bit too complicated for an explanation and I'm here now, turbo-charged and ready! Well actually.. I spent my first night of freedom in bed with my laptop and a long catch up session with megavideo.

Also! About General Pants, I actually got into a bit of a tiff with GP over shifts, sales and whatnot. Working there was a bit of a headache.. especially at this height I had to climb the ladders to reach just about everything haha but I haven't moved far, I'll be starting work at Bardot the week after the next. This time with a proper roster.

Three of my best friends are leaving on holidays soon :( I'm pretty down about not going overseas this summer but I guess I'll have the opportunity to do so in the future. I'll make those life long memories later in life, hopefully with my special someone!

Alright, time for a life update and sweeping! There will be a major haul bomb next post. I'm trying to save it all for when my Urbanoutfitters order arrives!

But moving on...
1. Mum's birthday. My brother and I (on the right) gave my mummy a little GUESS bag for her special day, happy birthday mother! My brother is also going into year 12 soon, yikes!

2. Kim & Peter's wedding. I've grown up with Kim and now she's tied the knot with her special man, she made such a beautiful bride. Congrats Kim and Peter!

Anonymous: Hey Annie!! Just a quick question, what do you use to remove your eye makeup? I find most products dry out my lids and leave them stinging =(
I use Lancome's Bi-Facil Eye make-up remover. Its non-oily and for sensitive eyes and hopefully it'll also agree with your sensitive-sounding eyes! For late night laziness Johnson's make-up wipes works wonders :)

Anonymous: hey hey just wondering where you got your earring stand from? it looks exactly like the one in an asian store in market city, only they dont really sell it but the earrings hanging on it haha. been looking for one but no luck :(
Hahaha I first saw them at market city too, quite embarressing because I kept going around to different stalls asking if they sell their earring stands and I finally found them at Fairfield markets, hoorah for the markets! haha

thilyy.: Where did you get the china glaze from? :O My mum had to bring them back from me from the states! I think the ones without shimmer work better than the ones with shimmer!
There were a few queries about the whereabouts of the China Glaze polishes stockist so I'll answer it here! There are some Nail Supply stores near where I live, a couple of them down the Hume Highway around Carramar and they all stock China Glaze. I've visited about 2-3 and the prices have ranged from $4-6. You can also purchase them here they also stock OPI and ORLY but voguettes have said shipping may take some time and all prices are in USD, not too sure on the p&h costs. China Glaze is definitely worth the wait though!

I definitely would pick the Stila smudgepots over Mac's fluidlines. They both apply on smoothly, don't flake or clump but I still find the fluidline still runs a little under the waterline whereas the smudgepots stay put - although they do dry out quickly so application has to be fast. Both are great liners though! Oh and my dog is a pomeranian! hehehe

Anonymous: For Mac NC30 skin, is Nars Laguna or Casino more appropriate?
Laguna! I'm NC40 and some days I find the Casino a smidgen darker then I'd like so I'd be standing there sweeping up the remainder of the Laguna to use hahaha. If I wasn't so low on the $$ I'd grab myself a back-up! :(

I put two coats China Glaze's 'Great Barrier Beige' as my base, did random spots of 'V' on my nails then did the black leopard print lining around the circles with my LA Colours Art Deco Polish in black :)

Annie: Just a quick question! You probably don't use this seeing as you don't have any eye bags/dark circles, but have you heard anything about the Garnier caffeine roll on stick, or the Garnier regenerating eye cream? Thanks!
No I haven't :( and it's definitely not because I don't have any eye bags or dark circles! I don't think I've had a proper night's sleep in so long, my under-eye is a tragedy in itself! My friends and I have talked about it though, I'll give it a try next time I pass it!

Anonymous: With the chanel foundation, does the spf create a white cast/does it reflect light in flash photography? :)
Foundations with zinc oxide or titanium oxide do give you a bit of a white cast in photos and unfortunately the chanel foundation does contain titanium dioxide so I wouldn't say its the best for flash photography but it's great as a day foundation!

viviannn: I was just wondering where you bought your black bag from (in the video) it's absolutely gorgeous! I heard you say from Bardot, I didn't know Bardot sold bags? hope you holla back!
Yes m'dear it was from Bardot! They stocked it in Liverpool and Parramatta and hopefully they're still around!

Anonymous: hey what subjects did you do in high school and what uai and course are you doing atm?
Well I firstly have to say - I was not a brainy kid! nor do I think I am (or think I ever will be.. hahaha) but the subjects I did in highschool were Economics, Senior Science, Studies of Religion, Biology, Maths ext.1 and English advanced. I'm pretty sure I've mentioned my uai in the past, it's nothing spectacular and to be honest I don't remember the exact number, it was around 87 or so, but I'm studying a Bachelor of Business at UTS. The cut-off for the course was about 91 or 92 and I was one of the lucky ones that were able to score an extra 5 for a band 5 or 6 in English. So yes, please no hater comments for being a failure of a student :(

I'm still alive - but barely!

Today will just be a quick update on life, I've hardly had time to manage my hygiene let alone my blog so I'm announcing my hiatus from now (like I usually do around this time of year) but I'll be returning in about a week or so with bells and whistles on! I cannot wait until these exams are over, some days the stress is so immense I feel like I will implode.

Money-wise, it's been a rollercoaster. The boyf came by some roulette luck last week and we shopped up a storm and now, completely against my own will, my wallet (along with about $500 cash) and I have departed.

I had other things to say but thinking about my lost wallet made my heart so sore. When I return I'll tidy this place up with some housekeeping and other nit bits.

I'll be in work next Friday so if you're doing some shopping in Parrmatta, pop by General Pants for a visit! :)

Pardon my absence!

What a kickstart to my Tuesday. I woke up half an hour before class and I live an hour away from uni, I made a speedy exit from home and presented infront of a student body with my daggy stockings, bed hair and no makeup .... and for that brief moment, I wished everybody grew cataracts to cloud their eyes. I'm terrible, I know :(

Monday was eventful though, I helped my friend Kimberly with her photoshoot project which was also a great chance to finally showcase the DIY hand and body chains I've made :) the weather could have been kinder to us though!

Here were the materials I used to make my hand and body chains. Silver chain from Spotlight and mum's jewellery pliers. My mum makes jewellery as a side hobby and she puts me to shame! haha if this post wasn't so photo heavy I'd upload some of her little creations but I'll save that for next post :)

And to top it off, another haul. Boy is this one hell of an entry or what! Sick of me yet? :)

I mentioned a couple of times in the vid that I'd put pictures up on my blog but I haven't had the chance to snap them in the daylight yet so - will do next post! It also seems that my photobucket bandwidth has expired, piccies will be up and refreshed in about 30 or so days but for the time being I get ugly exceeded bandwidth banners. BOO!

So, this is me celebrating my unphotogenic day. I'm not ambidextrous so the nails on my right hand are pretty deplorable, luckily thats the hand that holds the camera! Haha.

And yet another vid, a pretty useless one considering all pics + swatches are included on my blog anyway, I apologise if I've taken 9mins of your life. I wish I could give them back to you, I really do! Ahhh, but I guess the wasted effort deserves an upload... and you get to meet my little friend at the end hehe.
